GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR VACATION

Angel Fire Village is located 8,600 ft above sea level, and Soaring Eagle Lodge is located 9,600 ft above sea level. If you are not used to high altitude conditions, it can be a bit of a shock at first. Here are a few tips to help your body adjust to the altitude and avoid altitude sickness:
DRINK A LOT OF WATER
High altitude means drier conditions, which can cause you to become dehydrated quickly. Physical activities and eating salty foods can also impact your hydration level. Dehydration can cause headaches, dizziness, lack of energy, and several other vacation-ruining symptoms. Be aware of how much water you are drinking and make sure to take frequent sips throughout the day.

Pro Tip – Start increasing your water intake a couple days before you arrive. It will help get you acclimated much faster if you are already well hydrated when you get here.
START SLOW
It can be tempting to strap on your skis or grab your hiking boots as soon as you arrive, but we promise you will have a much more enjoyable vacation if you take it easy at first. Your body needs time to adjust to the dry, low-oxygen conditions. Begin your vacation by playing a boardgame, enjoying the beautiful scenery from the comfort of the hot tub, or checking out some local shops and restaurants. Your body will thank you.
SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN
Higher altitude means you are exposed to more UV light. This can cause quicker and more severe sunburns. Protect your skin by applying sunscreen to any exposed skin, and don’t forget to reapply throughout the day. Sunscreen also provides an added bonus of moisturizing your skin in the dry climate.
DRINK RESPONSIBLY
The effects of alcohol feel more pronounced at higher altitudes. If you plan on drinking alcohol, be mindful that it may affect you differently than it normally would. Drink your wine, beer, or liquor slowly, drink plenty of water, and do not drink on an empty stomach.
